A team of top Tamil Tiger rebels left their de facto capital on Friday en route to Geneva for their first direct peace talks with the Sri Lankan government in nearly three years.

Thaya Master, a spokesman for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, said the four-member negotiating team left Kilinochchi for Colombo abroad a Sri Lankan air force helicopter.
The Geneva talks are scheduled for February 22-23.
