The Governor’s changes to the university statutes came after a number of faculty members, claiming having won ‘national awards’ were enjoying extended terms of service in LU.

However, affected teachers moved the High Court and got a stay. The HC directed that those teachers who were already into the extension period would continue to serve, but henceforth, extension would only be provided if a faculty member was awarded any of the five awards named by the Governor.

The issue came up for discussion today when the executive council of the Lucknow University met. It was decided that those teachers who got two years extension without having received the prescribed national awards would not get the benefit. The EC maintained that even if they got extension of service from the executive council meeting much in advance, their extension stood cancelled. This decision ensures that in future that no teacher would be able to project insignificant awards as national awards and get extension.
