We just want respect’
THE LUCKNOW UNIVERSITY Teachers’ Association (LUTA) and LUACTA has decided to boycott the Teacher’s Day functions in protest against the Ujjain incident.
They didn’t want Ujjain to figure in their speech, but it did reflect in the most part of what they spoke. And that’s obvious.
What’s your message to the students on the eve of the Teacher’s Day? They said, “We are gurus and want them to be good students. That’s all. They are mature enough to understand and practise what we want them to.”
The anguish, angst and agony of the Ujjain incident have put the gurus in a somber mood.
The LUTA has called off their proposed function of honouring retired teachers and decided to boycott all functions. The LUACTA has decided to observe September 5 as the Black Day by putting up a black band on their arm. The LUACTA will stage a dharna at Patel Pratima between 12 noon and 2 pm.
The recent spate in students’ violence has left teachers shocked. Visibly pained LU V-C RP Singh’s only advice to the students is: “Behave like a student”. Last month, troublemakers attacked the proctor, teachers and a cop while pressing for their demand for the release of their leader named in attempt to murder case.

{{/usCountry}}Head of the Geology Department MP Singh urged the students to leave party politics and give due respect to teachers. “We do not want them to touch our feet. But, they must give us due respect,” he said. Students’ Welfare dean Nishi Pandey asked students to keep away from troublemakers and focus on their studies.
LUTA president DP Tewari said their association had decided to extend emotional support to the teachers’ body of Madhya Pradesh, who has resolved to observe September 5 as Dhikkar Diwas to mourn the death of Ujjain University professor.
“We’ve called off our proposed function of honouring retired teachers and would plant trees in the memory of the departed soul,” he said.
Shia PG College Principal MS Naqvi said indulging in violence instead of studies would only ruin their career. DAV College Principal BP Yadav lamented that contemporary student leaders did not look like students at all. “They mostly behaved like criminals. And that’s a bad sign.”
