He even said the same could be introduced in the affiliated degree colleges too as a deterrent to increasing incidents of crime on the campus. The idea is to keep the campuses free from the baddies so that academics could be pursued with all sincerity.
The VC justified his decision and said there was a government directive in support. He has simply adopted the same, he said and added this practice would help keep the bad elements off LU and would thereby help build a healthy academic atmosphere on the campus.
“Baddies hurl expletives, misbehave with teachers and manhandle employees. Under these circumstances, it is imperative to have some kind of check on their illegal activities,” he said. But, other universities don’t have such a system? And the V-C replied: “In no other university you get to see anarchy so often.”
“Incidents of violence and criminal activities are on the rise on the LU campus.
And hence it is imperative to devise a mechanism to check the spate of such incidents and violence on the campus. After a meeting with senior police officials we decided to moot the idea of compulsory police verification of all those candidates seeking admission to undergraduate and postgraduate levels,” the V-C said.
A visibly piqued V-C said there had been instances wherein students with criminal antecedents were found putting up in LU hostels. They would organize late night parties inside the hostel. All such bad boys need to be shunted out from the campus. “There are about 36,000 students in LU. Of which merely 1 pc are relentlessly engaged in criminal activities.

Don’t you think that by asking for police verification of all students would mean that varsity has bracketing all 36,000 students in one group? “This is not so police verification would confine to just fresh 10,000 to 12,000 candidates who are seeking admission in various courses. It has been seen that some of them who seek admission to LU already has some kind of criminal record,” he explained.
