THE LUCKNOW University (LU) administration has scheduled a special meeting of the Examination Committee for July 25 to discuss ways to promote students who have failed! This, because the LU Students’ Union (LUSU) office-bearers and other student leaders have been insisting on re-evaluation of answer sheets of failed students.

The LU Examination Cell has been flooded with letters complaining of poor evaluation. The cell is already under pressure because of the delay in results.
But little can be done as, complaints have poured in from all over. Even girl students from prestigious institutions like Avadh Girls’ Degree College have asked for a re-evaluation.
And, sources says, it is most likely that finally, the LU, like over the last few years, decide to award five grace marks split for two subjects to help failed students. This mean that if a student has failed in Hindi by three marks and in History by two marks then, with the help of five grace marks (to be awarded in the two subject), he would pass the examination and be deemed promoted. Last year, following pressure from student leaders, the LU evolved this formula by virtue of which, many failed students passed the exam.
Sources say the Examination Cell may also table a list of defaulting teachers who did not evaluate the answer copies in time and delayed results. The Examination Cell has identified about a dozen such teachers who did not return the answer copies in time. Majority of these were responsible for last year’s delayed result as well. There is a possibility that strong strictures could be issued against them so they do not repeat the delay.

According to them, after succeeding in stopping the LU officials from raising fees, they have managed to compel the LU to ‘save’ failed students. Student leaders have also asked the varsity administration to take stern action against teachers who have not evaluated answer copies properly as a result of which, many students could not clear the examination!
