THE NEHRU Enclave imbroglio may be a closed chapter for the LDA ever since the State Government ordered a CB-CID probe into it, but the likes of Ram Singh Rana (former LUSU office-bearer) remain as firmly and illegally rooted in the colony as ever.
Rana, who had grabbed flat number Rupayan 179 in the housing complex in the hope of getting it allotted in his name, has once again staked claim to the property, despite the fact that it has been allotted to Santosh Yadav. The flat in question (Rupayan-179) was allotted to Yadav by the LDA through a lottery draw held on October 4. And though, he (Yadav) has made full payment to the LDA, the latter is yet to give him possession of the property. The official reason: Possession can only be given once the registry of the property has been executed.
Those familiar with the enclave story in which hundreds of flats were grabbed by anti-social elements sans allotment letter or without paying a dime to the LDA, scoff at this explanation. On the other hand, in a letter to LDA vice chairman, Rana has requested that the flat be given to him as he had paid Rs 1.60 lakh through a draft to the LDA in August. In fact, the development agency had received drafts from 43 applicants when it had invited bookings against the vacant flats in the colony.
The bookings, however, were cancelled after HT Lucknow Live highlighted the alleged inconsistencies in the housing scheme. Subsequently, the drafts that were never encashed were returned to the applicants by the LDA. Rana too had applied with Rs 1.60 lakh under the scheme in the hope that his possession of the flat would be regularised on the basis of his political clout. And if his letter to the LDA VC is any indication, the former LUSU leader still seems confident that he would manage to arm-twist the LDA into having his way on the issue. The student leader left the LDA office on Saturday after reportedly serving a warning to the members of the department’s enforcement section to lay off “his” flat.
