Madhya Pradesh to invoke NSA for sex determination

Action under the National Security Act (NSA) must be ensured in cases of sex determination, said Madhya Pradesh health minister and president of state supervisory committee for PC&PNDT Act Narottam Mishra on Monday.

He said the implementation of pre-conception and pre-natal diagnostic technique (PC&PNDT) Act 1994 should be done strictly. It was decided at the review meeting where the minister was addressing officers of the health department that initiatives would be taken in all the districts of the state to stop sex determination. Under the leadership of district collector, regular inspections would be conducted at sonography centres.

In the last 10 months, a total of 882 sonography centres were inspected, registration of 32 centres were cancelled and 23 centres were sealed, the officer told the minister.
