CITY POLICE arrested two sharp shooters of a jailed mafia don Babu Yadav in an encounter at Jal Vihar Colony near Railway crossing on Thursday wee hours.
Police recovered two country made pistols and some live cartridges from their possession. The arrested miscreants were identified as Manjeet alias Indrajeet and Mahendra Pal, residents of Jansa area.
On a tip off that some miscreants associated with Babu Yadav gang were on their way to execute crime somewhere, a Police team led by SO Sigra laid a trap near Jal Vihar Colony. The cops spotted two suspicious looking men. Both the miscreants, opened fire on police team and made an abortive attempt to flee from the scene. However, they were nabbed.
Meanwhile, Lanka police arrested a drug peddler from Malviya Crossing on Thursday and recovered 500 gram heroine worth Rs 50 lakh in the international market from his possession.
The arrested drug peddler was identified as Mahendra Pratap Singh, resident of Barai village under Chaubepur police station.
Acting on a tip off, the cops laid a trap near Malviya crossing and arrested Mahendra. He confessed to have supplied heroine in the near by areas of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Samne Ghat.
He also confessed that he had been working for a smuggler Pramod Chaubey, a resident of Cantonment area.
