"The earlier map of Navi Mumbai was prepared in 1995 and the airport plan was superimposed on that. However, the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Union government objected to it as there were lot of structural changes over a period of time," an official from Urban Development Department today said.

The new map has been made by Anna University, the authorised coastal zone mapping cell by the Union government. The map was approved in a meeting of Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) here, he said.

In the latest map, CRZ area and mangroves have slightly increased since one of the rivers in the area is a tidal and due to environmental conditions its water level has gone up, the official said.

The Union Environment and Forest Ministry has written to the state government that the EAC would be visiting the airport site after September 22, he said.
