"The Education Department has decided to ban use of cell phones by teachers after receiving several complaints from parents about teachers using mobiles during teaching hours," Minister for School Education, Patangrao Kadam told PTI.

Mobiles phones cause `a lot of disturbance' while teaching, precious education hours get wasted and students are distracted," Kadam said.

Orders to the effect have been issued for immediate implementation of the directive in all Government and private schools in the state, the minister said.

Asked if children would also be banned from using mobiles in schools, Kadam said the decision obviously bars school children from using mobiles in schools.

The Higher and Technical Education department would also implement these guidelines for college teachers and students, he said.
