The appointment of advocates Nikam and Pradhan comes in the wake of the resignation by Advocate Srikant Bhat, who had earlier been assigned to represent the State in this case.

Ujwal Nikam has represented the State as special public prosecutor in many high-profile cases, including the 1993 serial bomb blast case, and the 2003 twin blast case. He is also representing the State in the Pradeep Jain murder case and Ajit Diwani murder case, which involves extradited gangster Abu Salem.

Meanwhile, Pravin Mahajan, who is accused of killing his elder brother Pramod Mahajan, was produced before the court on Monday on the directives of additional sessions judge SP Davare, who is hearing the case.

Pravin Mahajan's presence was demanded by the court on Monday since it wanted to hear from him as to why he had signed cheques and other instruments without prior permission from the court.

However, the judge was on leave on Monday and the matter will now be heard on October 3.
