Sources indicated that his requirement of oxygen had gone up from 80 per cent in the morning to 100 per cent in the afternoon.

Doctors performed a minor procedure in the ICU to drain secretions in Mahajan’s chest cavity that could be obstructing the airways.

“As a tube is already inserted in Mahajan’s windpipe to provide ventilator support, we inserted a telescope into the opening to suck out secretions,” Dr Vinod Chandiramani said. While Mahajan is receiving all the medication and mechanical support he can for multiple organ failure, doctors say his body needs to fight the inflammation and fluid accumulation in the lungs.
