BHARATIYA JANATA Party (BJP) MLA Satish Mahana was caught on the wrong foot when his bid to expose the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) proved to be a damp squib.
Mahana along with his supporters went to Canal Patri to expose the claims of the KMC. He thought he would take the municipal body to task for heaps of garbage lying near the Annapoorna Bhojnalaya. But much to his dismay the place was absolutely clean. Heaps of garbage had already been removed by the KMC.
Not able to find any fault with the KMC, Mahana then indulged in rhetoric and talked big about exposing the KMC “I will expose the KMC and tall claims made by it to keep the city clean on the festive occasion of Navratra,” he said adding that “heaps of garbage are lying all over the city and all claims made by the KMC regarding keeping the city clean have proved to be a pack of lies”. Accompanied by about 40 supporters the BJP MLA although tried his level best to draw the attention of the masses but he evidently failed in his efforts.
The face-off between Municipal Commissioner Badal Chatterjee and the BJP MLA started when the latter’s bid to catch Chatterjee on wrong foot backfired.
It may be pointed out that Satish Mahana’s meeting with the Municipal Commissioner on Tuesday last turned into a verbal dual between the two and became the talk of the town. The cold war between the two further intensified when after the meeting the Municipal Commissioner exposed the BJP leader by releasing a list of pending house tax dues on three houses owned by the relatives and father of Mahana.
Meanwhile, KMC staff have come out openly in favour of the Municipal Commissioner. They under the banner of Shangharshsheel Sanyukt Karamchari Morcha staged a demonstration at KMC in protest against the verbal dual between the BJP leader and the Municipal Commissioner.
Staff demanded that BJP leader must lodge his complaints in a decent way. General secretary of the union Ramakant Mishra led the agitation.
