Squarely blaming the BJP-led Centre for its "indifferent attitude" towards Congress-ruled DF coalition in Maharashtra, the state revenue minister Shivajirao Patil-Nilangekar on Wednesday accused the union government of "neglecting" the state's demands for a relief package to deal with the prevailing drought-like situation.
"The centre has neglected the drought situation in Maharashtra and denied the demanded relief package", Nilangekar told reporters.
He informed that the centre had allocated Rs 20 crore to Maharashtra till now while the assured sum of Rs 46.5 crore was still awaited.
Asked about the Centre's "step-motherly treatment" the minister said "The union government considers that only few parts of Maharashtra are facing drought. But that is not the case."
The reality is that the state government had to supply water from tankers in almost all parts of the state, he said.
Nilengekar said till June 14, altogether 11,800 villages were facing water shortage till June 14 and as on date 2,386 villages have to be provided water by tankers.
On Employment Guarantee Scheme, the minister informed that Rs 850 crore had been spent in 2002-03 while Rs 329 crore from April till date.
