A SIX-HOUR drama unfolded at Maharshi Institute of B Ed, Rau, on Wednesday when the students demanding refund of excess fee and degree from Devi Ahilya Vishwa Vidyalaya (DAVV) demonstrated on the college premise, destroyed college property and held the principal hostage for talks till the evening.
The total strength of the college is 70 and all students participated in the agitation. The students declared in unison that the college administration had extracted Rs 70,000 as fee from them, while giving receipt only for Rs 17,000. As per rules only Rs 15,000 from SC/ST and Rs 25,000 from General category students can be taken.
The students engaged in sloganeering, stone pelting and roughing up employees. Most of the windowpanes and glass objects were shattered and several computers broken by the irate mob. Accountant Ajit Kumar Basti was allegedly roughed up though he denied it before the media and refused to file a police complaint when the police were called on the premise later.
Students who swarmed the office of Principal Shyam Shrivastav held him hostage during the entire proceedings starting at about 11 am and stretching up to 5 pm.

On the last date, November 27, curiosity got the better of the students and they searched on the Internet discovering to their horror the absence of their college on the list of affiliated colleges.

{{/usCountry}}Shrivastav, trying to cool tempers, assured the students of concrete action as regards grant of affiliated degrees, while vehemently denying charges of taking more fees.Shrivastav said that a board meeting attended by the chairman would be held on Thursday and the students will be given a concrete reply within four days.
