An IPS officer of Haryana has jumped into the controversial debate, initiated by a TV channel recently on the last words, "Hey Ram", uttered by Mahatma Gandhi.
In a statement in Ambala on Wednesday, SSP, Ambala, Rajbir Deswal, who worked with the Union Bureau of Police Research and Development, said he had an occasion to see the FIR of Mahatma Gandhi assassination case registered with the Tuglak Road Police Station in Delhi.
According to the contents of the FIR, it was incorrect that Gandhiji uttered last words "Hey Ram" when he was assassinated. According to FIR the first hand account which was taken at its face value, was Nand Lal Mehta who got recorded that "Mahtmaji Ram Ram karte hue peechhey gir gaye", Deswal said.
Deswal said the words "Hey Ram" were inscribed at Raj Ghat where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated but it was actually "Ram, Ram".
He said "Hey Ram" might be a human exclamation while "Ram, Ram" was the submission of a saint to the will of the Almighty.
