A TWO-DAY national conference on ‘e-governance’ will begin on the Vidhan Sabha premises from February 2. It will be the second major conference on information technology in the City in three months’ time.
The meet, 10th National Conference on ‘e-Governance,’ is basically an initiative of the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances in association with the Department of Information Technology, Union Government.
The state government is the host. ‘Enabling government to accelerate transformation’ is the theme of conference, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances & Pension Suresh Pachauri will preside over.
“The conference will be quite unique in the sense that instead of just technical deliberation sessions and lectures, there will be exchange of views through interactive sessions,” said Minister for Energy and IT Kailash Vijayvargiya at press conference in the City on Wednesday.
“Over 500 participants from across the country will participate and it will be largest conference till date,” he claimed. It has been decided that the interaction and exchange of views with the chairperson of the conference would be noted down along with feedback for improvement in functioning in future.
“The State is going for technological up-gradation in a big way, which would enable the government to function round-the-clock. There shouldn’t be any excuse for non-delivery in the name of holidays. In fact, there shouldn’t be any holiday as such in this age of competition,” the Minister remarked. Citing the example of Transport Department, Vijayvargiya said it was due to IT intervention that the government could earn Rs 100 crore revenue.

{{/usCountry}}“MP’s major initiatives are in treasury network, commercial taxes, Mandi, land records and Transport Department network,” he enumerated. On future initiatives, the State is striving for improvement would put all works departments into electronic tendering system for e-procurement, the Minister said. “In another one-and-half years, the State would be ranked among the top states in e-governance and we’ll make necessary amendments and change in rules to upgrade ourselves,” he added.
On the inaugural day of the conference, Pachauri will release ‘e-Readiness Report 2005’. In the plenary session, panel discussion, addressed by a panel of experts, will be held on ‘accelerating transformation and resource mobilisation’. On the last day, a presentation on common service centres will made. This will be followed by panel discussions on ‘community participation in e-governance’.
In addition to exhibition showcasing the IT enabled services and e-governance initiatives of various states, national awards for e-governance initiatives and best paper for the compendium will also be presented.
