Ten key joint secretaries in the Union home ministry were reshuffled on Friday. This is the first major reshuffle of top babus in the ministry after Rajnath Singh became home minister.
Sources said the minister had told all top officials of the ministry that before effecting any reshuffle he will first assess their performance. The order for the new postings was issued late on Friday.
According to the order, joint secretary (left wing extremism) M Ganapathy will now look after the internal security division. Ganapathy is an IPS officer of Uttarakhand cadre. Punjab cadre IAS officer Dilip Kumar will take his place in the LWE division.
Joint secretary (policy planning) Sailesh will look after police-2 division that deals with paramilitary forces, while joint secretary (internal security) Rakesh Singh will be looking after union territories division.
Joint secretary (coordination) Kumar Alok will be the new joint secretary (centre-state). Meanwhile, joint secretary (foreigners) V Vumlungmang has been sent to police modernisation division.
