Major train tragedy averted

A MAJOR mishap was averted when the bogie of a passenger train caught fire at Varanasi railway station on Wednesday. Railway staff promptly doused the flames. The incident occured around 12 noon when some railway employees sighted smoke coming out from a coach of the Bareilly-Varanasi passenger train. The train, which had come from Bareilly, was almost empty as the passengers had alighted after reaching Varanasi station.

A MAJOR mishap was averted when the bogie of a passenger train caught fire at Varanasi railway station on Wednesday. Railway staff promptly doused the flames.

The incident occured around 12 noon when some railway employees sighted smoke coming out from a coach of the Bareilly-Varanasi passenger train.

The train, which had come from Bareilly, was almost empty as the passengers had alighted after reaching Varanasi station. Railway employees used the regular water pipes to douse the flames brought the fire under control in an hour. Panic gripped the station with passengers of other trains also trying to flee the area.

Senior railway officers also rushed to the spot and an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
