“DON’T let the ambitious project of developing Lucknow Industrial Development Authority (LIDA) remain just on paper,” UPDC chairman Amar Singh told senior officials of the State Industrial Development Department here on Friday.
Addressing a conference on ‘Driving industrial growth through competitiveness’ organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Northern Region, Singh commented: “The pace at which the work for LIDA should be happening has not been taking place in the State. There are other states such as Punjab and Rajasthan which have replicated the LIDA model and have been very successful with such projects.”
He said that while both State Industrial Development Commissioner A K Gupta and State Principal Secretary (Industrial Development) Ravindra Singh had talked at the conference about looking beyond Noida and Greater Noida for new industrial projects, there were immense opportunities for setting up ‘Special Economic Zones’ (SEZs) across the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Ravindra Singh said the State Government was in the process of formulating a textile policy. There was also an announcement made earlier regarding the formation of ‘Dadri Industrial Development Authority’ (DIDA), he added.
A K Gupta said the State Government was keen on utilizing resources of the ‘Infrastructure Initiative Fund’ to promote formation of various industrial clusters in the State.

{{/usCountry}}Ajay Shriram, Chairman CII (Northern region) in his address said that Uttar Pradesh had garnered investment proposals worth Rs 40,000 crore in the past two years. The government had also promised to make UP self-sufficient in power supply in the next two years, he said.
“Sustainability will be the key to any development programme of the State government,” Ratish Jain, Chairman CII Uttar Pradesh State Council added.
