Malaysia on Wednesday said its immigration authorities were not wrong in detaining a Bollywood producer in Kuala Lumpur as the Indian failed to produce his identification papers.
"The man had nothing on him. No passport, no travel documents. As a crew member, you would have a card or something like that or some identification, but he had nothing on him. And he was wearing slippers," Malaysian Home Affairs Minister Radzi Sheikh Ahmad said.
The comments, which appeared in The Star, were made by the minister after a meeting with the immigration officials.
Tourism Minister Adnan Tengku Mansor had earlier apologised for the three-hour detention of Sanjeev Mishra by Rela, a voluntary band of immigration officers, on Monday night.
Mishra, a line producer in the Mumbai film industry, was approached by officials while he was shopping at the crowded China Town market.
