The Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Saturday arrested Abrar Ahmed, suspected of planting bombs in Malegaon that killed 31 people on September 8.

Ahmed was nabbed at Malegaon and was produced before a Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court that remanded him to police custody till December 22.

Speaking to HT, ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi said, “Abar Ahmed is a close associate of Shabbir Batterywala one of the key conspirators of the Malegaon bomb blasts who is now under custody.

Ahmad planted the bomb at the Mushawra Chowk area of Malegaon. He had worked with Shabir for a long time and was closely involved in the blast conspiracy.”
