He said, while speaking at a gathering of party workers, intellectuals and leaders in Kolkata, “The manner in which the Trinamool Congress government is working in Bengal cannot bring in ‘poribartan’. True poribartan can be brought by us in 2016.”

“The last time an initiative was taken to bring an industry in Bengal, it was chased away by politics,” said Jaitley, about what many thought was a reference to the Singur episode.

Jaitley also accused the TMC government of being unclear on its policy on foreign development. “They (TMC MPs) said there are opposed to foreign investment. Then why is one going to Singapore? The policy must be clear,” he said.

“They need foreigners vote to win polls. Remove foreigners’ votes and their seats will come down,” Jaitley also took a dig with a reference to Bangladeshi infiltrators.

“We can provide a proper alternative. One needs to change the political culture of the state. We have one and a half years left. What happened inUP, the entire country, the same situation is prevailing in Bengal,” he said.
