"Patil rang me up and assured me that the Centre will inquire into the incident at Singur late on Monday night including the police action. We do not expect justice from the Left Front government, but the central government assured us of justice," Banerjee told reporters immediately after calling off her dharna at 2:00 pm.

"We will not allow farmland to be taken over for industry. We will launch a bigger movement jointly with the Congress," she said.

Banerjee said Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi who met her at the dharna site, also requested her to withdraw the dharna and fast.

The TC chief said that the Centre was inquiring into the incident and "we are also sending our report to Delhi on the entire incident."
