IN A tragic incident a man and his daughter were killed in the wee hours today in the lower-middle-class Karawghat area when the wall of a neighbouring building fell on them.
The father, Abdul Sattar and his daughter Mumtaz were sleeping in house number 8/2 Karawghat – on the top floor of the two storied building, when the adjoining rear-wall of the third floor of 92 Karawghat fell on them. The tin roof of their room could not bear the load of the crashing wall and the aged father and her daughter were squashed under the debris.
On hearing the noise, the neighbours came rushing out, and managed to pull out both Sattar and Mumtaz by removing the debris and rushed them to a nearby hospital, but the injuries sustained by them were too grievous, and both succumbed.
The house whose wall collapsed is owned by three brothers – Salamuddin, Kamruddin and Aleemuddin, and all of them stay on the first two floors of the house but no one stays on the third floor. There was a big crack on the wall that collapsed, but as there was ill will among the brothers, no one bothered to repair it.
Sources said that the building had been declared as dangerous by the IMC, and several notices had also been sent, but the matter ended there. The heavy rains that lashed the City yesterday further weakened the wall and it collapsed.

Sometime ago Sattar had decided to vacate the house and many of his family members had shifted from there along with the furniture. Actually, Abdul Rauf wanted to rebuild the entire building.

{{/usCountry}}Soon after the incident, police, administration and IMC officials rushed to the site, and the entire third floor of the building whose wall collapsed was demolished to prevent any further mishap.
Area SDM Uma Shankar Bhargava said that compensation of Rs 50,000 each would be paid to the next of kin of the two deceased. Bhargava said the Sattar has a son with whom he had strained relations and who stayed separately in Mhow.
