A 45-YEAR-OLD poverty-stricken weaver-turned-rickshaw puller allegedly died due to starvation in his house on Saturday. He is survived by his wife and five kids. The deceased has been identified as Farid.

An NGO, Vishal Bharat Sansthan has alleged that it had submitted a list of 32 poverty-stricken weaver families standing on the verge of starvation, to the government.
However, chief development officer (CDO) Ram Vishal Mishra denied starvation death. The CDO has ordered for the prompt facility of pension to the widow and issuance of ‘Antodaya ration card’ to the bereaved family for getting wheat and rice at the cheapest rate. The administration would also ensure measures for the schooling of his kids.
He further said, the NGO had given him a list of some rag picker kids and sought administrative intervention under the Child Labour Elimination Act. It is well-known that the Central and State government is running many welfare schemes for the poverty-stricken weaver families in the district. However, Karsara Weaver Housing Scheme and community health centres in the district are already going on.
According to information, Farid was a weaver, but following recession in the market, it became difficult for him to feed his family members and chose the profession of rickshaw-pulling. It is said that he had fallen sick for the last one week, and stopped pulling rickshaw, causing economic crisis before his wife and kids. Suddenly on Saturday, he died in his house at Kaji Khurd locality under the Sigra police station.
