Family members of Ramesh Chandra Chauhan (48), who has a tailoring shop in Hatod, alleged that the victim was was tortured by the police.

Chauhan’s two sons Manish and Deepak said that when their father’s condition worsened, Hatod SO A S Raghuvangshi and head constable Radheyshyam Malviya took Chauhan to the Malwa Hospital in the Aerodrome area, but the hospital refused to admit the patient since he was in a serious condition. Then he was taken to the MY Hospital where he was declared ‘brought dead.’

Tthe two policemen allegedly left the hospital in a hurry soon after, they alleged. Meanwhile, friends and relatives, who had reached the hospital staged a dharna there demanding action against the guilty police officers and refused permission for post mortem of the deceased.

In charge SP Manish Kapooria, however denied that the victim was beaten by the policemen. “He most probably died due to heart attack induced by the natural shock of being caught by the police,” he said.

Kapooria, however, said that the police have demanded a magisterial inquiry into the matter so that things become clear.
