Lala lost his valuables and cash during gambling at Nangla Charan Das village and when he had nothing else left he bet on his wife and lost her too, they said.

Lala went to fetch his wife from home but she somehow managed to escape and reach her parents' house in Bulandshahar.

She lodged a complaint at the police station on Wednesday but an FIR was not lodged till late this evening due to jurisdictional dispute among three police stations.

Lala told the police he was in an inebriated condition and was not sure if he had put his wife as a bet or not.
