A Georgian who attempted to assassinate US President George W Bush in May 2005 was awarded life sentence on Thursday.

The court in the Georgian capital Tbilisi also found the suspect guilty of murdering a policeman who was shot dead while attempting to arrest the subject in July 2005.

The man threw a grenade on May 10 last year towards a podium from where the President was addressing an estimated 100,000 people in Tbilisi. The grenade had failed to explode.
