A 42-year old man was arrested today for allegedly forcing his teenaged daughter to drink poison and commit suicide in Srivilliputhur in the district.
Police said the labourer had forced his 14-year old daughter to consume poison as he did not like her being friendly with a youth.

The girl was brought to the Government Hospital by the neighbours, in an unconscious state, and she died without responding to treatment last night, police said.
