The father Chandrapal, a farmer, was arrested today from his home.

Anita had eloped with Surendra to Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh a fortnight ago. When their family members came to know about their whereabouts, they brought them back with a promise that they would be married very soon.

However, on the night of June 6, Chandrapal strangled Anita to death, packed her body in a gunny bag and threw it in a drain. The incident came to light when the bag was opened by some stray dogs yesterday, after which Chandrapal was arrested.

Police claimed Chandrapal had confessed to his crime and had told them that he killed his daughter as she had brought "disgrace" to the family by eloping with the boy.
