A spat over filling water proved costly for a 60-year-old man in Sangam Vihar area of Loni on Sunday morning.
Nand Kishore was brutally murdered by four of his neighbours after they had an altercation with him over fetching water from a municipality tap, police said.
Around 8 a.m. on Sunday, Nand Kishore (60) and his daughter had gone to fetch water from a municipal tap which is installed near the house of one Rajendra Kumar, who was a neighbour of Nand Kishore.
“Soon, there was an altercation between the victim and the neighbours over filling of their water buckets. Reportedly, everyone wanted to fill their buckets first, before the water supply ended,” said Loni Station House Officer (SHO) Pramod Kumar.
During the heated exchange, four members of a family, including Kumar’s wife, punched and kicked Kishore.
During the scuffle, Rajendra Kumar managed to bring out a knife from his house and stabbed the old man at least four-five times, police said.
“We had earlier lodged a complaint with the police that the accused does not allow us to fill water from the government tap,” said Vijay Kumar, the victim’s cousin.
“Had the police taken some action at that time, the incident could have been avoided,” Kumar added.

{{/usCountry}}“The victim was immediately rushed to the GTB hospital, where he was declared dead due to his critical and multiple stabbing wounds,” police officials said.
Later, an FIR was lodged by the police into the incident.
Police have rounded up four persons, including Rajendra Kumar, his wife Kusum Lata and their two sons, on murder charges, Loni police officials told Hindustan Times.
