Raju then reportedly buried the body in the backyard of the Annie Besant College of Education.

As soon as news of the arrest spread, scores of people, including students and local residents, gathered at the college and ransacked it by destroying fixtures, furniture and computers. The police managed to restore order after sometime.

Police said Raju was pressurising Sarika for marriage. Only a week ago, she apparently told Raju she did not love him.

It appears Raju called her on May 1 in the guise of discussing the issue and strangled her.

When Sarika did not return home from college by evening, her parents lodged a complaint with the police. The police questioned her friends but could not make a breakthrough.
