In yet another case of honour killing, a 20-year-old girl was allegedly strangulated to death by her father who was against the girl's relationship with her lover in this western district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Monday.
Later, the accused Mathiram also committed suicide by consuming poison at Mansorpor village on Sunday, they said.
"The girl's body was found behind a school and it has been sent for postmortem," Deputy Superintendent of Police SK Shukla said.
The family of the victim Rekha was opposed to her relationship with Anil (22). Both the boy and girl were working as labourers in a factory, he added.
In a similar incident last week, a 17-year-old girl was shot dead by her father enraged at her relationship with a boy in Punjab's Jagraon district.
Last month, a newly married couple was shot dead by the family of a 19-year-old girl in Thatha village in Tarn Taran.
In November last year, two cases of honour killing were reported from Muzaffarnagar.
