According to the police, the accused, Deepak Bhosle (40) was upset with his mother, Asha’s (60) decision to divide her under-construction flat in Goregaon (East) equally between her two sons — Deepak and Vinod (38).

Deepak wanted the flat all for himself, as he had spent a lot of money for the education of his younger brother and sister.

On Wednesday morning, Deepak allegedly hit his mother on the head with an iron grinder while she was sleeping at their Navenchan Chawl residence.

The duo had had a heated argument the previous night.

The family members found her bleeding and thought she had slipped inside the bathroom and injured herself. They rushed her to Bhagwati Hospital in Borivli, where she succumbed to her injuries after four hours.

“We thought that she must have slipped inside the bathroom,” said a family member.

However, the preliminary autopsy report revealed that Asha had been hit on the head with a hard object.

“The argument over the flat had soured relations between my mother and brother,” said Vinod in his police statement.

“It happened out of spur of an impulse. I never imagined that I could murder my mother,” Deepak said on Friday.

He has been remanded in police custody till April 13.
