Man, nephew booked for raping minor Dalit

A 28-year-old man and his nephew, 24, were booked on Saturday for kidnapping and raping a 16-year-old Dalit girl at gunpoint at Birabadi village of the district on Friday.

A 28-year-old man and his nephew, 24, were booked on Saturday for kidnapping and raping a 16-year-old Dalit girl at gunpoint at Birabadi village of the district on Friday.


The victim, a Class-10 student of a local government school, fell prey to Sukhwinder Singh and his nephew Bhuta Singh when she was returning home after giving food to her grandfather, a watchman in agricultural fields of a landlord.

A police official said: "According to the complaint lodged by the victim's mother, her daughter was waylaid by the duo of the Jat-Sikh community around 7pm on Friday. She had said that they took her to a nearby hamlet and Bhuta Singh committed the crime, while Sukhwinder stood guard with a gun."

The victim was later dumped outside her residence by the accused after threatening her of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone.

On Saturday morning, the victim's mother reached the Ratia police station and lodged a complaint against the accused.

Rajesh Kumar, Ratia station house officer (SHO), said: "The accused have been booked under sections 376 (rape), 365 (kidnapping) and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and under the SC and ST Act."
