According to police, the accused, Ghisilal, 45, poured kerosene on his wife Phula Devi and set her ablaze. As Phula was engulfed in flames and cried for help, the accused fled the spot.

She received critical burns. The victim’s elderly parents-in-law somehow rushed her to hospital where she succumbed to the burns on Tuesday morning.

Police say that Phula, 40, had returned from the weekly market on Monday evening and after dinner her husband arrived. He had an altercation with her and all of a sudden got so angry that he threatened to kill her.

Later he emptied the bottle filled with kerosene on her. When Phula was engulfed in flames, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law poured water to save her. The accused’s brother, Kalram, informed the police. Phula’s ten-year-old son was also in the house at the time of the incident. Ghisilal takes up odd jobs to earn a living. The Kolar police have registered a case of murder.
