Narendra Jat (28) had sustained severe wounds after a truck ran over him at Ingoria on December 8. Narendra alleged that he was thrown before the truck by policemen. Narendra was brought to Ingoria police station, as the police suspected his involvement in selling stolen goods.

Although he was not under arrest, police maintained that he was called for interrogation. The police denied his allegation and contended that the truck had crushed him as he was fleeing the police station. Superintendent of police Jaideep Prasad suspended two constables and directed SDOP Barnagar Pramod Sonkar to inquire into the matter.

Narendra got infection in his legs as a result of wounds and died after struggling for seven days. Amazingly, during the period, none of the officials turned up at the hospital to record his statement, claimed his family members. Sonkar, too, rejected Jat’s allegations without taking his statement.

District Collector Neeraj Mandloi told the Hindustan Times that a magisterial inquiry was being conducted, as the deceased died in police custody. Although the points of inquiry were still under the process of being finalised, Narendra’s allegation of being thrown before the truck would be a part.
