Director: Aki Kaurismäki

Yet another masterpiece from Kaurismäki, it is about a man whose past has been wiped out from his memory. On arriving at Helsinki to get brutally mugged and loses his memory. The film relates his efforts to reconstruct his life in a large city.
Jobless, money less, without a memory, wearing donated clothes, things do not come easy to him. Starting from scratch, he does assorted menial jobs to himself alive. The only ray of hope in his life is the arrival of a Salvation Army worker. And he is soon forced to discover certain values in life that urge him to live on. Set in a very localized backdrop, it inevertheless carries a universal message. A tale of hope, survival and the joy of life, the film has traveled around the world to widespread acclaim.
