She's young and bubbling with energy. So it was no big surprise that Mandira Wirk's Spring/Summer showing at the Park turned out to be full of fun and fizz. It was a bit of a double whammy anyway as the collection also marked the launch of Mandira's new prêt label, MW2 which she plans to retail at 1 MG Road. "I've been planning a prêt line for the past one year. And now it's finally ready," says Wirk.

The designer has used fabrics like georgette layered with chiffon in polka dot and stripe prints. Skirts had lycra belts teamed with denim corsets. Satin lycra dresses and a range of short kaftans that just touched the knee, in pastel shades and floral prints, were flaunted by models Amanpreet Wahi, Nina Manuel and Tina Chatwal. Wirk's collection also includes a mother of pearl line with printed dresses, asymmetrically cut with Victorian motifs and fine brooches either placed delicately as clasps on the side, or provocatively on the V-necks.
"While the prêt line is priced between Rs 2,500 10,000, the mother of pearl collection, with lots of flute tops, is my diffusion line that will be sold at a higher price. The fluting of fabrics is a tedious process, which needs to be done accurately by hand," explains Wirk.
Guests included the effusive Roshni Chopra, currently seen on DD's Fourth Umpire. Chopra seemed all gung-ho about her newfound TV fame: "I was mobbed when I went shopping to Sarojini Nagar," she said. Chopra was also full of praise for Mandira's saris, which she says she plans to wear at the Singapore Fashion Week where Mandira is all set to showcase her line.
