Both Haryana and IGNOU have invested Rs1crore each as seed money to set up the institute spread across 25,000 square feet area.

The college, an initiative of Haryana IGNOU Society for Community Education and Training (HISCET), will offer five courses starting July.

It will also offer a year-long diploma in business process outsourcing (BPO). Other courses include certificate courses in four different disciplines — security management, front office management, fire safety and housekeeping.

For the BPO course, only Class 12 students can apply, whereas for other courses any student who has passed Class 10 can apply.

“We have followed the American model of education wherein industry-based learning is imparted to churn out skilled manpower,” said Rajiv Vasudeva, principal of the government polytechnic in Manesar where the college will be housed.

“For theory lessons, students will spend time on campus,” said Ravin Ahuja, assistant registrar, HISCET.

Proximity to industries in Manesar will act as a boon because the college looks forward to tie-ups with industries located nearby. So far, no residential accommodation has been made available but that should not deter students from far off places to study here, Ahuja said.

“We are getting queries from as far as Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. The college is expected to draw attention of students from all corners,” Ahuja said.

Another important feature is flexibility of timings. “Depending on the preference of students, classes will be held over weekends, weekdays or in the evening,” added Vasudeva.
