Manifold increase in expenditure claimed

EXPENDITURES IN various sectors have gone up from 150 to 600 per cent in the last 13 years, according to an official press release issued on the completion of the BJP Government’s three years on Thursday.

The release said on the road sector the expenditure in 1993-94 was Rs 313.86 crore which increased to Rs 1081.20 crore in 2005-06, representing an increase of 344 per cent. On power generation a sum of Rs 909.04 crore was spent in 1993-94 against which expenditure in 2005-6 was Rs 5586.12 crore. This increase is over 614 per cent.

Similarly, a sum of Rs 1030.29 crore was spent on school education in 1993-94 while the expenditure on this sector was Rs 2183.20 crore in 2005-06 - an increase of 212 per cent.

The period under report saw a 217 per cent increase in health sector, claimed the release, adding, it was Rs 757.63 crore in 2005-06 against Rs 348.80 crore in 1993-94.

In the year 2001-02, the expenditure on rural development was Rs 165.17 crore which rose to Rs 924.51 crore in 2005-06. The release claimed that the positive change in development scenario in Madhya Pradesh over the last three years is, to a great extent, attributable to buoyancy in tax collection.

The State has posted an increase of 34 per cent in tax revenue. It was Rs 6788.86 crore in 2003-04, which rose to Rs 9113.83 crore in 2005-06.

The increase in tax revenue from 1993-94 to 2005-06 is 240 per cent.
