Police prevented the students from proceeding towards the Raj Bhavan to hand over the text books to the governor as prohibitory orders were in place in the area, the sources said.

When they found that they were unable to move further, the students destroyed the books near the northern gate of the Raj Bhavan, the sources said.

Students from various institutions had been attempting to hand over the text books to the governor and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in the past one week to press for withdrawal of the Act.
