Manmohan cancels trip to Nagapattinam

PM has cancelled a planned trip to the tsunami-hit Nagapattinam town after warnings of a fresh killer wave sparked panic.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday cancelled a planned trip to the tsunami-hit Nagapattinam town in Tamil Nadu after warnings of a fresh killer wave sparked panic.

The Prime Minister visited Trichy and then returned here at 3.30 pm.

According to his original programme, he was to have travelled to Nagapattinam, the worst hit in Tamil Nadu by the December 26 tsunami.

Earlier, the Prime Minister visited Colachel in Kanyakumari district and visited a number of places affected by the tsunami.

He addressed survivors huddled in a relief camp and promised that the government would do everything to address their problems.

On Friday, he is to visit Kollam in Kerala before returning to New Delhi from Kochi.
