"It is not just the Congress which accepts that we have the most capable person as the prime minister, but it is a fact which is also accepted by the Opposition," Rahul Gandhi told reporters here.

"It is also accepted by the people in other countries and they understand and appreciate that Manmohan Singh is capable for the post that he holds," he said.

To a question on whether that (merit and capability) was the reason behind his turning down the post, Gandhi said, 'yes'.
