BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Saturday compared Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi to “newly-wed Maharashtrian brides” for shying away from naming “corrupt ministers” who had amassed black money in Swiss banks.
Taking a jibe at the duo, Gadkari said Singh and Gandhi were behaving like coy wives who are reluctant to call their husbands by their names.
Targeting the UPA, Gadkari, who was addressing a state executive meeting of the party in Ludhiana, said corruption and inflation were twin sisters “born from the womb of the Congress”.
He said the inflation rate and fuel prices had gone up and yet the Congress leadership took pride in saying the economy was growing. He said grain worth Rs 58,000 crore that was being allowed to rot should be used to feed poor families.
By sticking to its agenda of “nationalism, good governance and progress of the poor”, the BJP’s comeback to power was inevitable in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he said.
‘Don’t ask me for tickets’
The BJP president asked party workers in Punjab to desist from approaching him for tickets for next year’s assembly elections. “I have the record of each and every worker from the survey carried out in all constituencies. Thus tickets will be given purely on merit,” he said.
“If a small party worker who pasted posters on the walls can rise to the post of BJP national president so can you if you show sincerity towards the public,” he told party activists. He also warned party workers against infighting.
