Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Saturday hit out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the latter's remarks that Uttarakhand's BJP government had failed to utilise funds worth crores of rupees provided by the Centre for the state's development.
"The Prime Minister has failed to handle his own (UPA) government, which is steeped neck-deep in corruption…instead he is trying to misguide the locals by accusing the BJP government of having failed to carry out development in the state," Joshi, who is also chairman of the Parliament’s public accounts committee, alleged while reacting to Singh’s speech at an election rally he addressed on Friday at Rudrapur in U S Nagar.
Addressing a press conference in the state capital on Saturday, Joshi alleged that while the former telecommunication minister of the UPA government, A Raja was in jail following his indictment in the multi-billion 2G-spectrum scam, the same was the case with the chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, Suresh Kalmadi. "He has also been indicted in the multi-billion CWG scam," Joshi said.
Home minister P Chidambaram may also have to resign after Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee recently wrote to the Prime Minister saying the multi-billion 2G spectrum scam could have been prevented had the former union finance minister (Chidambaram) taken timely steps. "In his letter, Mukherjee also cites the laxity on the part of the Prime Minister as one of the main reasons, which led to the unprecedented 2G spectrum scam," Joshi said.

{{/usCountry}}Pointing out that the problem with the UPA government doesn’t end there, he said now, foreign minister S M Krishna was in the dock, accused of being involved in a case of illegal mining. "Even the Supreme Court has refused to quash the case against Krishna," Joshi said adding, he (Krishna) should, in fact, now resign from his ministry.
Rebutting the Prime Minister’s allegations against the state BJP government on the issue of development, he advised the Prime Minister to practise the politics based on facts rather than misguiding the people by making false allegations.
