A local court on Friday rejected the bail petition of Janata Dal (United) legislator Manorama Devi who was charged with possession of liquor under Bihar’s new excise law.

District and Sessions judge Sajal Mandalwar rejected the MLC’s bail petition after seeking the case diary and proceedings of the additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) court on May 24.
The ACJM court had rejected Devi’s bail plea on May 19.

Devi’s counsel sought bail on the ground that she neither consumed alcohol nor was caught drinking by the police during a raid of her residence.
Police combed through the legislator’s house while looking for her son Rocky Yadav, the prime accused in the killing of one Aditya Sachdeva. Rocky has since surrendered to the police.

Devi had gone into hiding for a few days after the raid, finally surrendering to the court on May 17.
She was suspended from the party for harbouring her son while her husband Bindeshwari ‘Bindi’ Prasad Yadav was arrested in the case.

{{/usCountry}}Her nephew Teni Yadav also surrendered to the police in the matter. He is named in the FIR with Rocky, who is accused of shooting dead Sachdeva, a Class XII student, for overtaking his car on the night of May 7.
Devi’s bodyguard Rajesh Kumar was allegedly also in the car that night.
