The allotment of seats in engineering colleges and other competitive examinations made several well-known colleges of Delhi University to come out with the fourth cut-off lists, teachers say.

While Shri Ram College for Commerce's fourth list with a 0.25% reduction in percentage was the most surprising, Hindu College, Hansraj College and Kirori Mal College also came out with a fourth list.
"We saw a sizeable number of withdrawals from Economics (honours) in the past one week. Most of these students withdrew because they had got admission in an engineering college of their choice," said a teacher at SRCC on the condition of anonymity.
According to university experts, many students who have taken admission in science courses will also withdraw admission once they get a professional course of their choice.
"We see this trend every year. Students, especially from the science stream, take admission in DU as a back-up option. They leave as soon as they get admission in an engineering or a medical college," said a senior DU official.
The re-opening of admission in SRCC means that other colleges will have to release a 5th cut-off list. And it is not just Economics (honours) that has seen a fourth list. Even in the much sought-after B.Com (honours), many top colleges, including Hindu College and Hans Raj College have come out with a fourth list.
"We have seen around seven withdrawals in Economics and 18 in B.Com (honours). We will have to come out with a fifth list but it will be with only a reduction on 0.25%. The competitive exams are also a big reason for withdrawals," said Bhim Sen Singh, principal, Kirori Mal College.
