Maoist arrested in Orissa

A hardcore Maoist, who operated as an area commander, was arrested and a pistol, ammunition and naxal literature were seized from him near Saranda forest in Orissa's Sundargarh district today.

A hardcore Maoist, who operated as an area commander, was arrested and a pistol, ammunition and naxal literature were seized from him near Saranda forest in Orissa's Sundargarh district today.

An automatic 9 mm pistol, five live cartridges, posters, literatures and leaflets were seized from the ultra, identified as Kunduru Luhar (25) alias Golapa of Bisra area, Rourkela superintendent of Police Himanshu Lal said.

Kunduru was functioning as an 'area commander'of the outfit at Digha area after death of maoist commander Md Muslim, he said.

Kanduru along with five of his associate had attacked teachers, headmaster and boarders of a school on March 8, 2011. Kanduru was also involved in an attempt to murder headmaster of the school. However, Kanduru escaped at that time when police launched seach operation. Kanduru was also involved in 19 cases in Bisra and Bandhamunda Goverment Railway Police limit.

He was forwarded to a court here and remanded to jail custody.
